" A wonderful location with very helpful staff, good accommodation and food"

I travelled with my mother and brother, we all had separate rooms which varied slightly. My room was in a new block and was very comfortable clean and modern, the other two rooms were not quite so modern but of a very good standard, all with pleasant views of the golf course. We made use of the hotel's complimentary rowing boat on the lake which gives a beautiful English country setting. The food was excellent in the dining room with particular praise for the breakfasts.

" Super unpretentious hotel with golf"

Golf hotel, but equally suited to non-golfers.

Roomy bedroom/sitting room with twin beds/dressing table/case stand at one end – at the other end a large modern TV, comfy 3 seat settee and matching armchair and with wide window (not a French door) to large lawned area with tall trees beyond.
Golf course looks in good condition – Pro pleasant and helpful. Handicap certs needed. Course marshal on duty on busy days to ensure 4 hour rounds and high standards of behaviour.

We’ll be going again soon – this time with golf clubs.

" A well run hotel on the golf course"

8 of us ( 4 couples ) have just had a really succsessful few days playing golf on their excellent testing 18 holes that is constantly being up-graded and to be able to walk in just a few minutes from your room to the tee makes for a relaxed game. The management have over the years really tried hard to make the hotel and the golf a package that would be difficult to beat anywhere in this country..
There are various room options, and now 5 brand new ones. The restaurant is often full and the service and choice of food and changing menu is perfect. There is a big bar for large groups and a comfortable lounge for the smaller groups. Even when full there is room for all.
If you wish to play at Aldeburgh ( with handicap certificates ) the hotel can arrange a very reduced green fee.
It is not suprising that so many golfers return so often because the hotel is run by people who care.

"Reminiscent of the inland glories of Sunningdale and Woodhall Spa"

The Sunday Telegraph Golfing Guide has been moved to decribe the classic terrain as "reminiscent of the inland glories of Sunningdale and Woodhall Spa"- and that is high praise indeed.

" The course is set tight and narrow amongst gorse and tree "

This wonderful golf course is set amongst some of the best of the Suffolk heritage coast surrounded by goarse and heathland.
It was part of the designed holiday village called Thorpeness Village a dream that was made real by Mr Ogilvie around 1910.
The club House was made 1932 and inside it has plenty of character and endless lists of captains and club champions.
The course is set tight and narrow amongst gorse, trees and gives you a feeling of being far away from stresses and noise.
Look at the windmill and the house in the clouds on the 18th before sitting in the Colonels seat in the club house and think of the great day you just had.

" We were made to feel most welcome"

Have just returned from my second 3 day, 2night visit. I would highly recommend Thorpness. Having played many of the UK's "greatest' courses, Thorpness is right there with the best of them. I'm a single figure handicap and this represented one of the harder challenges, playing 4 or 5 shots over your handicap is about par, particlarly when the wind blows. The condition of both fairways and greens was remarkable for early January.
Accommodation is more than adequate, the restaurant is also of excellent quality. We were made to feel most welcome and look forward to returning soon.

" Superb"

Some great holes - can be a bit tight in places! Take a few extra balls as there is plently of goarse arould and if the ball goes in it won't come out!

Course was in excellent condition and very enjoyable. Look for hotel & golf deals - great value.
