Pink Day raises £1.1k for Breast Cancer Campaign
Thorpeness Hotel and Golf Club has raised £1,100 for the Breast Cancer Campaign by hosting a pink themed golf day.
More than 100 golfers entered the Thorpeness Pink Putter, on National Wear it Pink Day last month and teed off in pink clothes using pink golf balls.
Golfers donated their competition entry fees and the cost of buying the pink balls to the Breast Cancer Campaign which aims to further the fight against Britain’s most common cancer.
The 18-hole stableford competition was organised as part of Thorpeness Hotel and Golf Club’s annual commitment to raise money for local and national charities.
Club officials say the fun competition inspired golfers to wear fancy dress with a ballerina, a pink cowboy and a man wearing a pink ‘onesie’ all taking part.
Paul Clouting, hotel director at Thorpeness Hotel and Golf Club, said: “We are delighted to have raised over a thousand pounds for the Breast Cancer Campaign.
The response from golfers was tremendous, they loved pinking up on the links, and the atmosphere on the day was simply magical. It’s great to see our members and guests pulling together for a great cause.”
Breast cancer claims the lives of 12,000 women every year and 50,000 more are diagnosed with the disease, according to Breast Cancer Care.

In July, the hotel’s annual charity golf day raised £13,000 for local Suffolk disability charity Warden’s Trust.
In December, Thorpeness Hotel and Golf Club is supporting BBC Radio Suffolk’s Seasonal Jumpers for Suffolk Family Carers appeal, which aims to raise £500,000 for a new mobile family carers centre.
Golfers are invited to enter an Open Competition on December 20th wearing novelty Christmas jumpers and donate an unopened Christmas present to the family carers appeal.
Long Heritage of Fundraising
Parent company TA Hotel Collection, operators of five distinctive and independent Suffolk hotels, has supported local Suffolk charities throughout the 17 years the firm has been in business and held its first charity golf day in 1997.
It has donated 1% of its annual operating profit to local charities every year since the company was formed, amounting to more than £400,000 in donations.
Earlier this year, TA Hotel Collection finished runner-up in the East Anglian Daily Times’ Community Involvement Awards for its work with local charities and with educational providers to tackle youth unemployment and provide opportunities for local people.
