Why the #perfect golf shot is best played at Thorpeness
This month Jose Maria Olazabal, the double Masters Champion, Seve’s best pal and the 2012 European Ryder Cup Captain, launched a nationwide search for the #perfectshot in association with a posh coffee brand.
This coffee is the stuff of champions and is drunk by Ryder Cup players, caddies, staff and the WAG’s (wives and girlfriends).
As a reward for filming yourself playing the perfect golf trick shot and sending it in to said coffee giant to post on Facebook, you can win two tickets to the Ryder Cup at Gleneagles in September and oodles of coffee beans, possibly even the snazzy maker that turns tiny silver capsules into moments of stimulating serenity.
Cue lots of golfers attempting the “between the legs,” “smash off a high tee,” “bounce it off three sauce pans and catch it in a coffee cup.”
The thing is, it’s all well and good, but asking the public to perform a golf trick-shot is like comparing a mug of instant coffee with that brewed in a cafetiere with slowly roasted ground beans lovingly dried in the hot Vietnamese sun.
When it comes to trick-shots it’s best to leave it to the experts, which is why we are delighted to announce that Geoff Swain, the World Golf Trick Shot Champion, will be performing his Golf Unplugged Show at the Thorpeness Festival of Golf this July.
Now Geoff really is the full blend, he can hit moving golf balls out of mid-air, hit a tennis serve with a miniature golf club and ball or a cricket cover drive, hit a giant driver while kneeling on the ground, blast balls from huge tee pegs and of the top of exercise balls – and all while making you laugh.
A former policeman turned professional golfer, Geoff is one of the golf world’s most sought after entertainers for the corporate and celebrity golf circuits.
Take a look at him having a great time with Ryder Cup Hero Ian Poulter in this video for Cobra Golf
Geoff brings a certain style and panache to his shows which also make him one of the funniest men in golf and he will be acting as MC and compere at the prize giving and gala dinner at Thorpeness Country Club on the final night of the festival.
It goes without saying that this Summer Thorpeness Hotel and Golf Club is the place to find the #perfectshot and it’ll be a laugh along the way.
The show is open to competitors in the Thorpeness Festival of Golf and to members of the public who want to watch Geoff’s show.
Golf Unplugged with Geoff Swain is on July 30th at Thorpeness Golf Club practice ground from 4.45pm.
Thorpeness Festival of Golf runs from July 28-31 and includes four days of golf competitions around our James Braid designed heathland course, evening entertainment, a golf clinic with veteran European Tour coach Bill Ferguson and a gala prize giving dinner at Thorpeness Country Club.
It is the first golf festival ever to take place in East Anglia.
